Bernard “Bud” Simons, MD, Class of 1944

Bud’s activities while working and attending Tucson High School were many. Yet he maintained a grade average of 1.3. He graduated from the University of Arizona with distinction and received his degree of Doctor of Medicine from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1952. His surgical residency was done in San Francisco. Practicing in Tucson, Bud achieved membership in the American College of Surgeons, Arizona Medical Association, American Medical Association, Pima County Medical Society, Tucson Surgical society; Southwestern Surgical Congress had served as State Chairman for the American Cancer Society Board. He served on many committees at St. Mary’s, Tucson Medical Center, Pima County and Southern Pacific Hospital as well as serving as Chief of Staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was Physician of the Year in 1980 and a member of the Board of Directors. He held teaching positions at the University of Arizona School of Nursing, St. Mary’s School of Nursing. In our community he served as President of the Catalina Club of Rotary International, on the Sierra Club, the Nature Conservancy, the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum Advisory Council, Board of Trustees.
