W. Arthur “Prof” Sewell (Faculty 1919-1950)

“Blow that horn, boy!”

The premier director of the Tucson High Band, who together with Miss Vail wrote the music to the song “All Hail to the Badgers.” A dedicated and inspiring instructor in instrumental music, Prof Sewell was a Mecca for musicians for 37 years. He helped keep the Tucson Symphony Orchestra alive until it was self-sustaining. He is rightfully known as “Mr. Music” to his former pupils and those who enjoyed listening to his well-trained orchestras and bands. Prof served as a captain in World War I, was a member of Kiwanis, private music teacher and a role model par excellence.
