Frances Schmidt Sundt, Class of 1948
Community Leader and Philanthropist

Frances has always felt fortunate to live in the United States where volunteerism is a way of life. To this day she never meets a stranger writes Pat Peters Stephenson. Some of Frances’ community activities include: St Lukes in the Desert, Inc. Corporation member, Chairman of the Research Committee; St. Luke’s Board of Visitors President; Girl Schouts Sahuaro Council Southern Arizona President; Recipient of the Outstanding Citizen Award; Casa de los Ninos Building Fund; Arizona Children’s Home, Chairman Long Range Planning Committee; Brewster Home Board Member; Junior League of Tucson; Chairman Fort Lowell Museum Docent Program; Metropolitan Youth Council Board Member; United Way Evaluation and Allocations Committee; Tucson Museum of Art Executive Committee. Frances is active in the Christ Presbyterian Church serving as Elder, member of the Personnel Committee, Chairman of Christian Education. She is a member of the Presbytery of Southern Arizona Planning and Resource for 31 churches in the Synod of Arizona and New Mexico and on the Planning Committee of the Southwest Mission foundation. Following graduation from THS, Frances was awarded a Rotary scholarship to the University of Arizona. She and Bob Sundt married in 1949. They lived at construction sites in Arizona and California before Bob assumed the presidency of the construction corporation. Frances and Bob traveled the world with the construction industry where she enjoyed contact with people of many nations and of many faiths.
