Donald W. Carson, Class of 1950
Journalist and Teacher

Graduated in journalism from U of A. He worked on the Arizona Daily Star and Associated Press and returned to the U of A as a journalism professor. He was a demanding and superb instructor and mentor to thousands of students over a 30-year teaching career.
“Quite simply, Don Carson changed my life,” noted Charlie Waters, Editor-in-Chief of the Fresno Bee. Carson won the prestigious Fulbright teaching awards in educational programs in Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Bolivia, Sweden and England. The California Chicano News Media Assn. honored Carson for his commitment to Hispanic students.
The National Conference of Editorial Writers, the National Hispanic Media Association and the Robert C. Maynard Institute Editing Program for Minority Journalists at the U of A in 1980. Carson is still active in civic and community affairs.
