Alice Vail (Faculty 1915- 1946)
THS English Teacher, Dept. Chair
A favorite English teacher at Tucson High School for decades, Alice Vail’s drunken porter scene from Macbeth was never forgotten by anyone who saw it. She spent hours and hours above and beyond her normal long working day advising the staff of The Cactus Chronicle, molding neophyte writers into a semblance of journalists. She aided many a pre-collegian write a letter, a young speaker to frame his thoughts or a poet to understand iambic pentameter, Miss Vail was never too busy to help a student, Her poetry is remembered by us all as we “carry, carry on.” She retired in 1946.
